Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Recurrent Seizures And Soreness In The Mouth?
My husband has seizures - always at night when asleep. They started in 1999, at age 58. They only happen once or twice a year. After coming out of it, he is tired, and his muscles are sore and his mouth and tongue are sore from being bitten. After two days, he is back to normal. Are there other outcomes and dangers from having a seizure?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
What you described is a typical seizures, i.e. fitting followed by tongue bite, and muscle weakness. There are a lot of hazards of having fits, i.e. falls, roadside accidents, getting wounds and a lot more. There is a hazard of death as well though that is an uncommon. So getting fits again and again is always risky but luckily a lot of medicine can work very effectively to control seizures. So I would suggest you must not waste any more time to see doctor who should do some test if there is any reversible or precipitating cause and then he can prescribe you medicine that would hopefully control his seizures.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
