What Causes Recurrent Skin Rashes On The Chest, Neck And Face?

My daughter is 19 years old. She has had flu like symptoms for 5 days. On the 2nd day she broke out in a skin rash that comes and goes a couple times a day. It itches when she breaks out usually on the arms and legs but sometimes on the chest and neck. There is no fever any longer but the rash keeps appearing. The ER visit prescribed her a z pack and a steroid (which seems to make the rash worse). Any ideas for itch relief and should she go to a Dermatologist? The last break out appeared on her chest, neck, and face. It is red and welped each time before it disappears.

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of recurrent skin rashes on the chest, neck and face which are due to excessive heat, cold, environmental change, insect bite , pollen and some plants, pressure and sun exposure . It is the body's response to the trigger factor.

Need not to worry. Stay in cool environment. I would suggest you to give cold compresses to hives several times a day to prevent from swelling and itching and take over the counter antihistamine drug like benadryl. The most important thing is to find the trigger factor. If symptoms still persist then consult dermatologist for proper examination and treatment. Doctor may prescribe other steroid cream, anti inflammatory drug or drugs that can suppress immune system. Doctor may perform skin test and challenge to find out the trigger factor.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
