Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Recurrent Swelling And Inflammation After Being Stung By A Hornet?
10 years ago plus I was stung by a hornet on my hip, had large swelling and after a while with anti biotics it subsided. I have had several flare ups in the same area but nothing for a year but it has just flared up again, when it subsides I have scaring and what seems to be damage or muscle loss to area? What shall I do? Also feel week a couple of days before flare up and pains in groin?
Can you feel a small swelling beneath the skin there?
It is possible that the sting triggered an inflammation forming foreign body granuloma that can get episodic secondary infections. Pain in groin is from inflammation of draining lymph node (lymphadenitis) there.
Although such episodes will respond to antibiotics and analgesics, granuloma need to be removed for preventing recurrences. During next episode, discuss the same with your doctor to see whether that can be removed.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
