Hello,
As per my clinical experience, the definite underlying cause of the swelling and
redness in ankle is matter of evaluation for the possible differential diagnosis as:
- Recurrent Bursa cyst after excision or incision and drainage
- Chronic cellulitis
- Recurrent bacterial infection of subcutaneous tissue
- Draining
sinus of
fungal infection or atypical organisms as Nocardia or others
In my clinic, I do recommend thorough clinical examination with peripheral pulsation and may advise for the need of:
-
Diabetes profile
- Doppler
ultrasound of the lower limb
- Complete hemogram and WBC ount
- X-ray of the right ankle to rule out any bony lesion secondary to this
- MRI as last resort if everything above turns out to be negative only.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
