Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
12 year old grandson has a stomach ache 3 or 4 times a month - and has missed school because of it. While it could be food related, there doesn t seem to be a clear connection. While many of these episodes are in the morning, he didn t feel well while we were out last night and today he was home from school and now has a fever.
Understanding your concern. As per your query your grandson is having symptoms of recurring abdominal pain . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like gastroenteritis , food allergies , lactose intolerance , irritable bowel syndrome , appendicitis or crohn’s disease. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may order stool test along with ultrasound and take history . Doctor may prescribe omeprazole , ornidazole and anti inflammatory. I would suggest you to avoid taking dairy product , food like broccoli , take antacid after every meal or eat light and non spicy . Sometimes abdominal pain occur due to UTI so also consult urologist .
Thanks for asking at healthcare magic. I read your question and I understand your concern. Pain in stomac 3, 4 times a week, now with fever indicates two things. 1. Chronic Gastritis 2. Worm Infestation all that you have to do is to investigate him.He needs to have complete blood count, stool R/E and stool H Pylori antigen, ultrasound abdomen if these were inconclusive then upper GI endoscopy. For time being start him on proton pump inhibitors esomeprazole 40 mg OD 30 minutes before meal for one month and deworm him. Tell him to take plenty fluids, don't lie down after taking meal for at least an hour Give him antipyretic like Tylenol. Hope it helps best Take your best care and of your grandson. Don't forget to rate this answer and close the discussion at healthcare magic. Regards Dr Ejaz
