I keep getting a bacterial infection in my vaginal area, I have been to the doctor several times and she gives me the antibiotic and then it goes away for about a month, then comes back again. I don t want to have to keep going to the doctor I just want this to stay gone. I can t stand the embarrassing smell and discharge. I have had a hysterectomy and I don t understand why I keep having this problem.

Hi,

Recurring bacterial infections in the vaginal area can be caused by a variety of factors, including:
- Poor hygiene: If you do not clean your genital area properly, bacteria can grow and cause infections.
- Antibiotic use: Antibiotics can disrupt the natural balance of bacteria in the vagina, making it easier for harmful bacteria to grow.
- Unprotected sex: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomoniasis can cause bacterial vaginosis (BV), a common vaginal infection.
- Menopause: Changes in hormone levels during menopause can alter the pH balance in the vagina, making it more susceptible to bacterial infections.
- IUD: In some cases, a copper intrauterine device (IUD) can cause bacterial infections in the vagina.
- Diabetes: High blood sugar levels can increase the risk of developing bacterial infections in the vagina.

To address this issue, you should consider making some lifestyle changes, such as maintaining good hygiene by washing your genital area with mild soap and water, wearing breathable cotton underwear, avoiding tight-fitting clothing, and avoiding the use of scented products in the genital area.

It is also important to get tested for STIs if you are sexually active and use protection during sex. If you are experiencing symptoms of bacterial infection, you should see your doctor to determine the cause of your infection and receive appropriate treatment. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics or suggest other treatment options to help prevent recurring infections.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
