What Causes Recurring Body Bruises In Children With History Of ADHD?
My grandson is 7 yrs. old, he is covered with dime size bruises. He is hyperactive and takes meds for it. I am concerned that there may be an underlying cause for these. One batch heals and then he gets them again. Could this be from a vitamin deficiency ? His pediatrician says not to worry but I have never seen so many on such a small child. It looks like he has been abused but this is not the case. Is there some testing we could get to figure this out?
As per my clinical experience, the recurring body bruised indicate hyperactivity related injuries which show different stages of healing. It is the need of dose adjustment of ADHD medication, which will be able to control the child behavior and hyperactivity to much better way and hence issue of bruises will be controlled over a period of time.
ADHD is a clinical diagnosis and comprehensive approach at school, home and surrounding is best way to deal the issue. The different modes of therapy consists of: Stimulants as Modafinil and Non stimulants as Atomoxetine as per the severity and parent concern.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
