What Causes Recurring Chest Pain In A 51 Year Old Person?

I m 51 years old, in good physical condition, hiking many miles per week (however, under extreme stress lately). Off and on, I ve been having chest pains. My father and his mother have heart history, neither had heart attacks, but both had stents. I have an annual check up every year and always have perfect blood work. I m concerned I might have a blockage. I m experiencing shortness of breath, fatigue, and occasional pains in my left chest. It s sort of a dull tightening feeling, not a sharp pain. My question...is there a quick test I could get at a clinic that could tell me if this is a heart issue or a stress issue? I m traveling in my RV (have been since February) and have plans to continue through October.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your detailed history about travelling, left sided chest pain and so on.
The best thing to get done is an EKG and physical examination including blood pressure, pulse rate, auscultation of heart, pressure on the site to see for other causes of chest pain like costochondritis, muscular spasm and so on.
Auscultation of lungs for pleurisy and so on.
X-ray chest and so on.
Once the probable diagnosis is done you will be treated accordingly.
Stress is known cause of costochondritis.
If required you will be advised further heart related investigations of echocardiography and so on.
Take care and get a confirmed diagnosis and proper management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
