What Causes Recurring Diarrhea After Ciprofloxacin Tablet S Effect Is Lost?
Sir,my father is 52 year s old and he is a diabetic and hypertension patient But it is in control, he is taking metformin. He has diarrhoea problem, he often takes antibiotics like ciplox tz and is very worried with loose stools.the problem is that till he takes ciplox tz he fills fine but after that again loose stools. Please help me.
Metformin is notorious for causing GI upset. It should be changed with another antidiabetic in the first instance. Diarrhea is also a feature of autonomic diabetic neuropathy. Frequent use of ciprofloxacin can alter normal bio flora of GI tract. You would need a complete workup for diarrhoea if it does not remit after changing metformin.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Ejaz Ahmad, General & Family Physician
