Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I HAVE A STEP GRANDDAUGHTER THAT I HAVE KNOWN SINCE SHE WAS TWO..i HAVE NOTICED FOR A FEW YEARS THAT SHE DOSENT DRINK ALOT, EAT ALOT NOR DOES SHE URINATE VERY OFTON....SHE SEEMS VERY HEALTHY, VERY ACTIVE, NOT A SICKLY CHILD AT ALL. BUT ON OCCASION (2 OR 3 TIMES A YEAR) SHE WILL HAVE AN UP AND DOWN FEVER FOR ABOUT 2 TO 3 DAYS THEN IT GOES AWAY. OUTSIDE OF THAT BEING MY CONCERN SHE HAS ABNORMAL BAD BREATH ALL THE TIME. MORESO IN THE PAST TWO YEARS ( AND WORSE WHEN SHE HAS A FEVER). SHE JUST RECENTLY WENT TO THE DENTIST SO I CAN RULE THAT OUT. I M JUST CONCERNED THAT SHE MIGHT HAVE SOMEKIND OF KIDNEY ISSUES GOING ON. IS THIS NORMAL FOR HER AGE OR SHOULD I STEP UP AND SAY SOMETHING TO HER MOTHER. IF SOMETHING SHOULD BE CHECKED INTO IT SHOULD BE NOW. THIS IS JUST A GUT FEELING THAT SOMETHING IS JUST NOT QUITE RIGHT. OLEASE ADVISE.
Understanding your concern . As per your query you have recurring fever and bad breath , which is mainly because of Dehydration or oral cavity which occur due to infection n oral cavity like gingivitis or periodontitis . Sometimes general infection in the body can also cause bad breath along with fever .Sometimes dental abscess or sinus formation can also cause such kind of bad odor . I would suggest you to maintain proper oral hygiene , Brush and floss twice a days , do warm saline rinses thrice and consult dentist for proper diagnosis . Doctor will examine physically to tule out conditions like acid reflux . Dentist may perform oral prophylaxis and prescribe antibiotics like metronidazole . Doctor may also refer you to general physician . As of now you can chew sugar free chewing gum and tart candies as it help in stimulating saliva flow. Gargle with Biotene mouthwash. Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrate.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
