What Causes Recurring Fever, Chills And Flushed Face In An Elderly Lady?
Hello. My 94 year old mother has been experiencing a low grade fever every night for the past 8 days. She starts by having the chills, and then her face gets red hot and she gets a headache. Once she takes Tylenol her fever subsides over a period of a couple of hours. The fever only occurs in the evening.
Low grade fever with chills is commonly caused by RTI (respiratory tract infections), UTI, autoimmune disease, thyroid dysfunction or stress, anxiety or fatigue (generalized weakness). Help your mother get physically examined. Get all tests (CBC, Urinalysis, test for Widal /MP, etc) done to evaluated the cause & get her treated at the earliest, she will be treated with antibiotics & intravenous support if needed.
In the meantime, give her vitamin E & supplements with B6, B12 with minerals & home made food & rest.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K.
