My girlfriend has had BV four times in as little as 3 months and blames me, today when she went to the hospital they found a lump and the Dr told her how could her GYN not notice it, could this be the reason why the fishy odor and BV keeps coming back.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Bacterial vaginosis can occur due to improper hygiene, using hard soaps, detergents and deodorants ,hormonal imbalance, douching, keeping area moist or due to low immunity and recurrent antibiotic use.
BV can be treated with oral antibiotic like metronidazole or clindamycin.
Your girlfriend should be advised to:
1) Avoid douching or using any other over-the-counter vaginal hygiene products, liquid soaps and body washes.
2)Wear only clean & cotton undergarments.
3)Keep the genital area dry.
4)Don't wear any tight fitting cloths or pants to avoid repeated friction or irritation.
Thanks
