What Causes Recurring Headaches?

I have recently had unusually painful, sporadic headaches, but have no history if migraines or headaches. These headaches jave occured over a two month period. More recently, symptoms include sensitivity to light and noise. They are isolated to the left side of my head, and a particular spot. I have tinnitus in my left ear frequently, and my ear feels full of water. I have eye pain occasionally in the left eye. All pain and symptoms are isolated to the left side of my head. I do not have health insurance, and wish to gain some idea of what could be wrong without unnecessary testing. I have had a recent head injury within the last two weeks, and a CT scan result was negative for any abnormalities, but I still have symptoms. As of this week, I was diagnosed with Strep throat and after two separate treatments/prescriptions of antibiotics, I finally gained relief from the strep. During the strep episode, my headaches were extremely unbearable, and woke me up during the night They never even suggested a spinal tap, and my concern was meningitis. Please help me gain perspective and get some possible answers or suggestions toward my symptoms.

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,

As your headache episodes have a sensitivity to light and sound, the diagnosis may be a migraine; however, you also mentioned tinnitus and hence it is advisable to get an ENT specialist's opinion. Further, since the headache episodes are severe and even a spinal tap has been suggested, I would like to mention that MRI Brain with contrast would be the ideal imaging study for evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Ajay Panwar,
