Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am struggling with reoccurring impetigo and I don t know why. I can sometimes treat it on my own, sometimes it requires antibiotics. It will clear up for a period of time (anywhere from a month to 6 months) but then it comes back without any obvious reason... Any idea why?
What are the sites most commonly involved? Recurrent impetigo might suggest a staphylococcal carrier state. A swab taken from perineum and nostrils will detect this. If detected, treating this with antibiotic creams like Mupirocin for 5-7 days might help to prevent recurring. Kindly discuss with your doctor. Also, we have to keep skin fold areas (neck, axilla, inguinal, perineum) clean dry always. Avoid sharing personal belongings. Keep nails clipped.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
