What Causes Recurring Itchy Red Patches Of Skin With Blisters On Foot?

For almost 10 years my left foot randomly gets very itchy, red spots, then peeling and blisters. I have been to the doctors and they say it is not athletes foot but they don t know what it is. They prescribed me a lotion to help, but it seems to make it worse.

Hello,

Itchy red patches on skin with blisters on foot is commonly seen in eczema, atopic eczema / dermatitis. The factors that may cause it are dry skin, infection, pollen, pet danders, certain fabrics, scented/chemical soaps or household cleaners, etc. You are suggested to take care of your hygiene, take regular bath, do not leave skin dry, apply moisturizer.

Do not scratch, use mild herbal soaps. Apply cortico-steroid based ointment (Hydrocortisone) to the area affected. Ecziderm cream works effectively. You can take non sedating antihistamines, once daily for 5-7 days. Get clinically examined by a dermatologist so that your skin tests & blood tests can be done. You may require ultra light therapy, medicines or injections.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
