What Causes Recurring Mental Hallucinations?

Hi, When I was younger I use to hear music in my head. The song was usually a country song I heard. Sometimes I would hear a song that played in my first grade classroom. Music would randomly play in my head. It s been years since it s happened, but I am curious on why something like that would happen. I had no visual hallucinations. I also remember a voice calling my name from time to time. Again, this doesn t happen to me anymore, but I am curious about what that could be.

thank you and very pleased to answer you
hallucinations are “the apparent, often strong, subjective perception of an object or event when no such stimulus or situation is present.” hallucinations is when your five senses have not received any direct stimulus and your brain perceives something is happening. Hallucinations may be visual (seeing), auditory (hearing), olfactory (smelling), gustatory (tasting) or tactile (feeling).
Although hallucinations may occur with any of the five senses, auditory hallucinations are by far the most common kind of hallucination.
Two Kinds of Auditory Hallucinations
There are actually two classes of auditory hallucinations—psychiatric auditory hallucinations, and non-psychiatric auditory hallucinations. People with mental illnesses often experience the former, while hard of hearing people often experience the latter.

Exactly what causes Auditory Hallucinations is still unknown, but there are a number of things that seem to trigger them.

1. Anxiety/Stress/Worry.
2. Depression.
3. Constant Background Noise.
4. Brain Abnormalities.
5. Drugs. Alcohol, Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), Marijuana (Pot), Methamphetamines (Meth) and other recreational drugs can cause auditory hallucinations,
6. Hearing Loss. Hearing loss is a very commonly associated with Musical Ear Syndrome.

Treatment is dependent on the cause of hallucinations. It is necessary to first identify the cause and the origin. In the case of problems of mental pathology, antipsychotics (neuroleptics), possibly associated with anxiolytics and psychological management are advised. In the case of organic disorders, it is necessary to take charge of the disease responsible for hallucinations. A detox and a medical follow-up are essential for hallucinations related to the use of drugs or alcohol. If hallucinations are caused by drugs, the treatment should be changed.

best wishes
