What Causes Recurring Pain And Numbness In Upper Arm With History Of Atrial Fibrillation?

I am 40 year-old female, low blood pressure, and active but recently diagnosed with afib. I have been having intermittent cramping in my left hand and wrist with intermittent shooting pain in upper arm. The cramping in the left hand and wrist last for a few minutes to an hour and has been going on for 4 days. The shooting pain in the upper arm lasts less than a minute and just started today. I also had shooting pain in my jaw yesterday, but it also lasted less than a minute. The cramping and the shooting pain usually happen at different times. Does this seem heart related?

Hi,

Atrial fibrillation and hypertension are co-existent usually. However, atrial fibrillation may cause less pumping of blood from the heart due to irregular rhythm of heart resulting in hypotension also many a times, which may be the reason of low BP in your case.

Due to the less available blood as a result of atrial fibrillation, you may be having the symptoms of pain and cramping in the left hand, wrist, upper arm and also in jaw. Also, as the symptoms are present on left side, it may be also indicative of a decreased blood available to heart thru coronary arteries.

Therefore, you are advised to see your cardiologist for evaluation of your heart condition or any related health condition & treatment done accordingly, if needed.
