What Causes Recurring Pain In The Chest With Shortness Of Breath?
approximately 10:30 p.m. last night, while drinking a glass of milk I suddenly was hit with chest pain and shortness of breath. I was unable to sleep all night and after getting one hour of sleep this morning I awoke to the same chest pain and shortness of breath I had had all night and then noticed that my right leg especially my right foot were swollen. I did not go to the emergency room. should I have? what s happening to me? I m frightened!
As per my clinical experience, various possibilities can be figured out here in case of chest pain with shortness of breath. The transient episode of short breath after glass of milk may be related to gastric reflux compressing diaphragm.
The swelling in the leg with short breaths leads to thinking of deep vein thrombosis, but calf swelling is a usual presentation. Associated history of any consumption of blood thinner, cardiovascular disorder, atherosclerotic risk factor, smoking or others have to be correlated on clinical grounds.
A visit to your primary care is mandatory in this dilemma condition.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
