Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Recurring Palpitations At Night With History Of Atrial Fibrillation?
I have been diagnosed with atrial fibulation and have been prescribed warfarin I also have an under active thyroid for approx 20years.i have had minor palpitations spasmodically since being diagnosed with under active thyroid but recently have had strong palpitations particularly during the night which have been quite frightening. They are worse when I lie on my right side and can last for a about 15mins or so. During this time I also need to urinate a couple of times and manage quite a flow. I feel my heart is pounding .I had another attack last night, I am a non smoker but I did have 2 glasses of white wine yesterday evening with my dinner.
Wine is not suitable for you as it can cause palpitations. Hence, in the future, avoid alcohol, caffeinated products and even non-veg food. Take a healthy diet, more fruits, salads, drink water, 7-8 glasses a day. Do some sukshm yoga. Researches show 'Art of Living' sahaj samadhi course can prevent atrial fibrillation in the long run and thyroid problems. You can join it. Take your medications as usual, new blood thinners are also available instead of Warfarin. Your doctor may also prescribe them. Have curry leaves, amla and basil. Keep smiling and listen to calming music more in a day, it is helpful for your heart.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Sunny Madar, General & Family Physician
