Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Recurring Red Spots On The Lower Spine?
Hi my son has two red spots on his lower spine that have presented themselves three times. They begin as red spots and eventually scab over and go away. Each time they show up they are exactly the same size. At first j just brushed it off thinking that he hurt himself but now this is the third time and I m a little concerned. Do you have any ideas what this may be?
Is this situated in the midline of lower back, or towards one side? This might suggest a sinus there, which can happen in the lower back (lumbo-sacral area) and causes recurring episodes of swelling and discharge from secondary infection. Kindly consult a pediatric surgeon during next episode, as mid-line sinuses may be associated with milder forms of neural tube defects and need evaluation.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
