What Causes Recurring Redness And Ski Cracks On Lips?
I have had a recurring condition for nearly two years. My lips get hot & feel chapped. The outer edge of my top lip gets red as if it sunburned. Then the skin peels and cracks. Cracking also occurs at the corners of my mouth. I use triple antibiotic to help heal the cracks, but the redness and soreness persists for several weeks. This is the thrid time I have had this condition in less than 2 years. Symptoms started 6 weeks ago and I cannot sem to get rid of it this time.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of recurring redness and skin cracks on lips which could be due to allergic reaction to certain irritant, due to excessive sun exposure and due to weak immunity which is leading to allergic angioedema of lips.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult oral physician/allergist and get evaluated and start treatment accordingly. Apply cold compresses over the lips. In case of allergic reaction take anti-allergic medications like Cetrizine and avoid licking, biting or sucking the lips repeatedly. Apply lip balm containing SPF 15 and drink plenty of water. Take diet rich in multivitamins.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
