Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello doc.....was getting SEVERE stomach pains about 3 years ago....the best way I can describe them is a Charlie horse in your stomach muscles.......literally debilitating pain that lasts for about an hour to hour in a half. I traced it down to whenever I drank Mountain Dew of had Italian dressing on my salad (my physician said I was crazy about the MDew) But I gave it up and had not had an episode since.....but tonight I did....and realized I had Italian dressing on my salad. I am 53.....fairly good heath.....they did do a blood test for an ulcer which was negative? Obviously I need to stay away from both of these products......but very concerned if there is something else going on?
The issue of severe abdomen pain after intake of Mountain dew is indicative of acute gastritis which can show up without an ulcer as well. In my clinic, I do recommend an upper GI endoscopy with stomach biopsy to rule out chronic Helicobacter Pylori infection. Till that time, intake of omeprazole or pantoprazole with sips of water on empty stomach will give best relief for primary time lapse.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
