What Causes Recurring Sharp Pain In Rectum And Lower Abdomen?
As a side note, I did pass a stool this morning. For the past 6 or 7 hours, I ve been feeling a pressure/pain in my colon or rectum. Pain in the lower abdominal area as well. When I cough, I feel the pain very severely in my rectum near the tailbone. It hurts to stand, walk and bend over. I took a stool softener about 4 or 5 hours ago. I have also been taking acetaminophen, which has not helped. My mom thinks it is constipation and maybe hemorrhoids. I get random sharp pains in my rectum that take my breath away.
Pain in the rectum during passing stool may have various reasons including haemorrhoids.
It may be a fissure in the rectum. it should be diagnosed with physician. take plenty of waters and green leafy vegetables plus fruits which are rich in dietary fibres.
Dietary fibres rich diet help in stool softening and ultimately your pain will be relieved. Stop smoking, alcohol etc. Try to reduce weight if it's more. Don't consume much junk food.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Nirav Nimavat, General & Family Physician
