What Causes Recurring Sharp Pain In The Ankle With Sound Upon Walking?

Last fall, I had a couple of nights of sharp pain in the front of my ankle/bottom of my shin. This lasted several hours. It would start building, become very painful, lasting 10 or 15 minutes, and then subside. In a while, it would start all over again. This happened twice, and I went to a chiropractor. He manipulated my ankle, and legs, and also a painful place I had in the ball of my foot. I have not had this sever of pain since, but every so often, I feel a deep pain, which subsides. Now, when I walk, such as downstairs, when my ankles bend while supporting my weight, I hear a squishy sort of sound. Not popping, just soft squishy sound.
