Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Recurring Sharp Pain In The Left Side Of The Abdomen?
I have a recurring sharp pain just to the left of my belly button. It first occurred a month ago. I just thought it was muscle strain. I iced several times and took naproxen sodium. The pain went away until 2 days ago. Again, I feel it muscle strain. I ve been icing the area but it s still there. There is no lump so I don t think it s a hernia.
Pain abdomen can be caused due to various reasons, it's not always necessary that a hernia is a reason behind it. It can be a radiating pain due to other underlying cause.
Whenever a patient comes to me with similar symptoms and If the pain is recurrent I advise him to get an ultrasound abdomen done. Once the underlying cause is known its easy to treat it. Sometimes just an ultrasound doesn't reveal much about the cause, then I suggest my patients see a gastroenterologist. He will advise on further investigations like necessary blood tests or other imaging tests that help to know the underlying cause.
After all history and physical examination along with the reports, the pain and cause for it will be managed appropriately.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar,
