Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have been getting a sharp pain directly under my ribs on the left hand side for about the last 3 months, I have good days and bad days, it comes and goes and there does not seem to be much of a pattern with regards to eating. Sometimes I can still have the pain at 5pm when I have had lunch at 1pm. It does seem slightly worse after eating. I have put on weight lately. It helps the pain when I lay down and gets worse when I stand up, lean forward or if im sitting in a chair. Your help is much appriciated. Thanks
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have recurring sharp pain under the ribs . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to may reasons like muscle strain , myofascial pain , chest infection , acid reflux and lift something too heavy . Take proton pump inhibitor and H 2 blockers for acid reflux. It can also sometimes occur due to cardiac condition like angina . I would suggest you to consult cardiologist for proper examination and rule out serious condition like angina . Doctor may order ECG, TMT along with complete blood profile and troponin t test . Doctor may prescribe isosorbide dinitrate , beta blockers , furosemide , sedative and aspirin . Doctor may also refer you to orthopedic surgeon if there will be broken rib or muscle . For now continue taking advil , stay calm and apply warm compresses to back .
