What Causes Recurring Sinus Pressure With Audible Cracking In Nose And Forehead?

Hello. I am having recurring bouts of intense sinus pressure (behind nose and eyes and in the forehead) with audible cracking/popping in the nose and forehead. The pressure occurs randomly without warning and is not accompanied by any other symptoms. It lasts for an hour or more at a time and can happen several times a day. At its peak, the pressure almost unbearable and I can feel it in my ears. I feel like my face is going to blow up. While this is happening, I feel like my nose is actually opening up (like the feeling you get when you ve had a stuffed up nose and it suddenly clears). I have a long history of sinus infections, but I have never had this intense pressure in my face with no other symptoms. I am so confused by the intense pressure and the lack of congestion or other symptoms. I do have some post nasal drip and occasional sneezing (once or twice a day - nothing abnormal). Mucus appears to be clear when I blow my nose after the nasal rinse and/or sneezing. Is it likely or possible that my sinuses are just inflamed and causing this pressure to build up randomly throughout the day? Thanks for any advice you have to offer.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Yes, what you are experiencing is due to sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses). Get an X-ray of sinuses done to check it out, and immediate consultation with ENT specialist. Do use nasal spray, antihistamine and paracetamol.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
