What Causes Recurring Soreness In Neck With A Lump Under The Jawline?

I have had a sore neck for a few weeks on the left side. The pain was not constant - sometimes awful, sometimes unnoticeable. I took an hour and a half flight a few days ago and noticed afterwards a lump under my jawline on the left. Could this be caused by the flight? I have to make the return flight in a couple of days.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of recurring soreness in neck with a lump under the jawline. The symptoms you mention you mention in query could be due to few reasons like :-

- Due to infected lymph node which could be due to bacterial or viral infection.

- Due to dental abscess as sometimes infection or pus get accumulated at the root tip and leads to swelling.

- Due to blocked duct of salivary gland.

Need not to worry. Flight could be exaggerating factor for your condition as it will leads to creation of negative pressure inside. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may do fine needle aspiration cytology/ excision cytology to find out exact cause of lesion. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics (amoxicillin) for at least 10 days or perform minor surgery to remove salivary gland stones.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
