Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m 55 and I m not sure if its been a year since I ve had a period but I believe it has. I started spotting very dark colored blood a few months ago. It stopped for a month or so and now it s started again. It is brighter red this time as well as dark. Should I be concerned?
If your period stopped for a year then you would be considered menopausal and this bleeding would be post menopausal bleeding.
Though post menopausal bleeding is very often related to benign ( not serious) conditions, it should always be investigated by a doctor. This is to rule out the more serious conditions.
This assessment would involve at least an ultrasound to take a look at the uterus.
I hope this helps
