What Causes Recurring Swelling On Groin Area In Children?

My 6 year old daughter has had a slight swelling in her groin area. It seems to come and go and doesn't feel some or anything.... just look a bit puffy on one side. She has had a cough for a week or so and tonight I have noticed that when she coughs the swelling gets along bigger, almost like a golf ball popping out?

Thank you user for your query.
Your symptoms suggesting of a inguinal hernia.
For this you have to consult a general surgeon as he/she will get the examination done and if it comes out to be hernia then a surgical intervention has to be done and she will be all fine.
God Bless

Pathologist and Microbiologist Dr. Shailja Puri's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
A recurring swelling in the groin region which increases of coughing is suggestive of a hernia possibly an inguinal hernia.
An ultrasound of the groin region is required.
I suggest you consult a surgeon for clinical assessment and prescription of ultrasonography of the region.
Treatment of hernia is primarily surgical along with repair of the defect.
Delay in surgical repair can lead to complications.

Thanks and take care
