Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a reoccuring issue with my nose getting slightly swollen, very tender to the touch and red on one side. First couple times on the right, currently now on the left. It comes and goes. I m a new flight attendant in very dry air conditions. But I now at the same time have what seems to be a stye starting on my eye. The lower lid is slightly swollen and tender to the touch. I did have some debris kick up in my eye the other day from wind but I m also reading up that staph infections could be the cause of these. treatments say do nothing for a stye and should take care of itself. If it was staph, could it spread from nose to eye? Should I see a doctor?
From the description given it appears to be an infection of hair follicles in the tip of the nose. These kind of infections are usually due to Staph aureus or even streptococci could be involved. Usually if nose is picked and hair is plucked such an infection can set in. Stye also is a bacterial infection of the eyelid margin hair follicle. Such infection can spread to near by areas by contact. Suitable antibiotics like Amoxycillin with Clavulanic acid for a week or any other suitable one can be used. Best is avoid picking the nose. If still infection persists do consult the doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
