Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Recurring Unexplained Scratches On The Body?
I wake up with scratches on my body, the most common places are on my legs and arms. I am alone in my house i have no pets, no significant other that lives with me, at first it was just one or two every few months but now its five or six every week or so. Im positive its not my bed sheets or my covers or clothes or anything like that causing this. I dont know what to make of this. Can you please explain this to me.
As per my clinical experience, recurrent unexplained scratches on the body without obvious allergic hives indicate possible disturbances of coagulation pathway. There can be purpura or rashes in conditions as: - Platelet dysfunction - Low platelet counts (decreased production or increased destruction) - Liver problems - Autoimmune disorders
In my clinic, I do recommend thorough history, physical examination and necessary lab data to find possible cause underlying the issue.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
