Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was diagnosed with vertigo a few months ago and recently my vertigo episodes started again. I took my medicine and did a few epley maneuvers. I fell asleep, and the next day, I felt better. So I thought, maybe the cause of my vertigo is from misplaced crystals in my ear. But then, the next day, I started experiencing vertigo symptoms again. I thought to myself, didn t I put these crystals back in place already by doing the epley? So my question: what could be the cause of my vertigo? Should I see my doctor? A specialist?
What you explain, especially if you get better with Epley maneuver, is BPPV (benign, paroxysmal positional vertigo) which is due to crystals in the inner ear. In this case, the crystals may be repositioned and cause recurrent symptoms. Thus, it is likely that you have symptoms coming back time after time due to BPPV. On the other hand, it might be better to have a visit with your doctor and just make sure this is the case.
BPPV is generally benign and responds well to Epley maneuvers.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
