What Causes Red And Blotchy Legs Along With Edema?

My legs are swollen and hold water. I am on 5 water pills a day. My legs are red and blotchey and warm to the touch. It came on over night on Saturday. I have been having trouble with water retention but nothing has changed. I was fine in the morning and in the afternoon I started itching and turning red so I have been taking benadryl until I can get in to see a doctor.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of red and blotchy legs along with edema . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to many reasons like keratosis pilaris , folliculitis , eczema , hives or bug bites and skin infection . The edema can also occur due to kidney failure , so also consult urologist. I would suggest you to clean the skin of legs with warm water and mild soap and betadine. You should keep it dry and take antihistamine like benadryl. Avoid wearing tight clothes. If condition doesn't get better then consult dermatologist for proper examination. Doctor may order blood test , skin test , allergy test and physical examination . Doctor may prescribe clindamycin , anti inflammatory , anti allergic and corticosteroid ointment .
