What Causes Red And Blue Discoloration In Legs, Weight Loss And Fatigue?

My grandson is 16 and small for his age. I recently noticed that his legs are discolord with red and bluish areas under the skin. He has lost weight and has a lack of energy. He says is fine but complained that one heel hurts to walk on. Any thoughts.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I do not like those discolored red and bluish areas under your grandson's skin. Although they might be related to trauma while playing, they should not last more than a few days.

As your grandson is small for his age, I think it's time you send him to run a few lab tests:
- cbc in order to check his blood cells
- urine analysis
- liver/kidney function test
- TSH/T3/T4
- Growth Hormone

Discuss this with his family doctor or pediatrician first.

All the best.
