Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I am a sexually active male. Recently I have experienced a red, macular rash which is mild on the glans penis. I experienced severe itching for one day and the past two days have had mild itching. No pain or discomfort. What could this be please?
Detailed Answer: from your history it seems that you are suffering from an infection of penis called "balanitis". there are several causes of balanitis and the most common causes are; 1. fungal infections, 2. yeast infection, 3. bacterial infection 4. other STDs (like herpes or syphilis) (all above could be due to resent sexual contact) 5. contact dermatitis (irritation caused by exposure to a certain chemical or material e.g bath soap) 6. Psoriasis
The diagnosis could be confirmed on physical examination and contact history.
If I am your doctor in first four infections i may treat you with a combination therapy e.g a skin gel which is steroid + antibacterial (fucicort cream), antifungal cream (mycoheal), cetrizine tablets for itching and doxycycline 100 mg for 7 to 10 days. If repeated infections then both the partners should be treated at the same time.
in case of last two infections only steroid cream and a cetrizine tab can be given.
I advice you to visit your doctor for confirmed diagnosis and prescription.
