What Causes Red Blood In Stool After Taking Laxatives?
I have been taking laxatives for around ten years now and have continued to take them ever since and have increased my intake. (between 5-10 at a time) if i don t take them i get constipated. I have recently been noticing bright red blood in my poo after i have taken them. What is wrong?
Hello, I had gone through your query and understand your concern.
Bright red color blood in stools suggests that bleeding is fresh meaning it is from the lower intestinal tract. Normally laxatives doesn't cause bleeding. It may be due to haemorrhoids or may be due to an ulcer in the rectum. Hardened stools may cause injury to the mucosa of intestine which may lead to bleeding sometimes.
Increase fibre content in your diet. Drink enough water. Keep watching for blood in stools. If it persists for many days then it is better to consult a General Surgeon.
Hope this helps.
If you have any other query, feel free to ask.
Regards, Dr. Prathap Kumar
