What Causes Red Bruise At The Site Of IV Insertion?

I was in the ER on Tuesday and had an IV inserted. It has healed nicely around the area where the IV was inserted etc, but I have a really gross red stain on my skin , looks like a medium red bruise with no purple but has no pain. Im concerned it is something serious.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
No you should not concern with this. This is the inflammatory reaction due to injury because of needle insertion. This redness will reduce within few days.
Keep the site clean and dry. You can apply povidone iodine ointment on this to prevent any chances of infection.
