What Causes Red Bumps Around A Tattoo?

I got a tattoo a week ago, and have been following all the hygienic procedures. I have had a outbreak of decenty sized pus filled pimples which are red around them. None of them hurt at and only a few have popped on there own but more keep cropping up. The artist said that it could be stress related from the size of the tattoo, or overuse of the tattoo aftercare cream clogging the pores. I have since stopped with the cream and just washed it as regular. It s been a few days but I m not getting much of a change. I also had one larger boil like sore at the top of my shoulder above the tattoo that started to hurt after a few days and grew worse (I originally put the pain and it s growth the the fact that it constantly rubbed against my shirt throughout the day, and the pain did cease after leaving it uncovered for a while) however today I accidentally popped it and a decent amount of pus and blood came out, so I proceeded to drain the remaining and have applied some topical cream and bandaged bit. However I have been doing some research and I m starting to worry about the risks of staph infection and MRSA. If the boil itself now after being popped has minimal pain / discomfort should I still be worried? I havnt felt sick, no abnormal aches or pains, extreme thirst and fever that I have been aware of since.

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.

I had gone through your question I can understand your concern about your tattoo related issue.

As per your symptoms the condition seems to me suggestive of multiple micro abscesses. If the situation is under control and healing normally without any proliferation of the lesion. You don't need to worry, if it is increasing and pus accumulation is continous, you may need a course of antibiotics.

If I would have been your treatment doctor, I would have advised antibiotics like Ofloxicin 200 twice day provided you are not taking any other medication, you are not pregnant and also not allergic to it.

You must always keep it clean, don't pop out with dirty hands and also don't keep it open to environmental exposure.

Hope your query is answered, and write to us further if you feel any further assistance needed.

Regards
Dr Muzaffer Hussain Parray.
