What Causes Red Bumps Around The Vaginal Area During Periods?

I have red bumps around the panty line on my button that look like spider bites (about the size of a penny) that appear more right around my menstrual cycle and stay until about a week after I m done, but not always during this time period. They are itchy but have no discharge during or after they appear. Any ideas as to the cause?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

This might be due to a skin reaction to pads that you use during menstruation.

You might try to change the type of pads you use and see if there is a difference. Try to avoid perfumed pads as these have higher risk of local skin reaction due to the aromas they contain.

Sometimes a mild steroid cream like hydrocortisone can be applied in the area to reduce the skin irritation (steroids should not be used for long time in the genital area as this might cause thinning of the skin).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
