What Causes Red Circular Spot With Dark Center On Upper Right Chest?
I have a single red circular spot with a dark center on my upper right chest. It appears and then disappears after a few days. Perhaps a month or so later it reappears near the same spot but not exactly the same place. This has been happening for over 6 months. What could this possible be? It does not hurt or itch.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
The skin discoloration you describe can be due to aging, exposure to the sun; do not worry. You just need to be under observation along with a bit of skin care.
It can be a fungal infection, allergic patch or a psoriasis patch. If it is associated with itching, it would need specific treatment after diagnosing (with expert local examination).
In case the lesion shows asymmetry, irregular borders, the color is black, brown, pink, white or blue, more than 1/4th of an inch in size or is changing over time then you need to consult a dermatologist at the earliest to exclude skin cancer.
Even if it does not fit in any of above categories, get it analysed by an expert dermatologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks.
Regards,
