Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Red Itchy Blister On Chest With Clear Yellow Fluid Discharge?
I noticed a 10cm x .5cm long blister on my ribcage a few days ago. It now has a red edge and is itchy. Intensely filled with clear/yellowish fluid. The skin is not broken. I don t recall having any trauma to this area. I have just returned from a 2 week holiday in South Africa. Should I see my doctor? Do you know what it might be?
Your symptom is indicative of a boil that is infected, and pus filled. You are advised to get it clinically examined by a health care provider. If the boil is large and deep, they will incise and drain it. It will be cleaned, and antiseptic dressing done. Do not squeeze it by yourself as you may spread the infection.
Warm compress may help to drain and rupture the boil. Always wash hands after handling the boil in order to avoid spreading contamination. Do not share your clothes or toiletries with anyone. Take a course of oral antibiotics like doxycycline-100 mg. Take analgesic, one stat when needed to help subside pain, inflammation and discomfort. To prevent itching you can take antihistamine at bed time.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
