What Causes Red Itchy Bumps On Upper Chest, back, neck And Jaw?
my daughter has red itchy bumps on her upper chest, back, neck and jaw. She itches until she bleeds. She has seen a dermatologist several times and they have no more answers for her. She is 20, in good health, only 5 pounds overweight. She has been taking Depo Provera.
Your daughter seems to have prurigo simplex. There may be severly itchy papulovesicular lesions anywhere on the body. Itching may be more at night. Psychlogical factor might play role in inducing such eruptions. However, there may be some other irritants or allergens also like dust, grass, pollens, fume, pollutants,metal,cosmetics,soap,wool,clothes..etc there may be atopic diathesis also. Certain food factors like cow milk, nuts, curd, fermented food, eggs, sea food..etc might exacerbate the lesions. In patients having such problem, I usually give tranquillizer like fluoxetin 10 mg in the morning along with psychotherapy. Antihistaminics like levocetirizine 10 mg at night for long time. Steroids in tappering dose may be given for short period. Apply mild steroid with antibiotic cream. Avoid soap bath. Dettol may be used for bathing. She may become alright after few months treatment. I hope you got my answer.
Thanks.
