Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Red Itchy Lumps On The Legs Post Laser Treatment?
My daughter had laser treatment done in her legs. She has gone to 4 dermatologists and the last one had a biopsy done. The diagnosis is follicular inclusion cyst with chronic inflammation and granulomatous response, consistent with a ruptured follicle. Both legs are covered with small cysts, bumpy red which cannnot be squeezed, itchy. She cannot shave her legs since January.
The features suggestive of folliculitis. Usually it observed due to hair removal with razors caused by bacteria staphylococcus and streptococcus. Laser hair removal provides a long term relief in individuals who develop folliculitis after shaving. Sometimes folliculitis can occur following laser hair removal but it's usually temporary. Antibiotics for skin & soft tissue infection like azithromycin should improve the condition along with a topical anti biotic and anti inflammatory creams.
