What Causes Red Itchy Rashes On The Chest After Treating Dengue?
Dear Doctor, my mother, 65, had a dengue attack on 1st sept. She was hospitalised and given 10 units of platelets. now she has recovered and released from hospital. However since last 2 days we have noticed some red coloured rashes on her chest which are itchy. Plz advise
Itching rash can occur in Dengue fever. Rash tends to disappear spontaneously during recovery phase. Don’t worry, it will resolve spontaneously in few days. Advice 1. You can take anti-histaminic such as diphenhydramine or levocetirizine 5 mg once daily if itching is irritating 2. Take proper rest. Do not involve in strenuous activity for few months. 3. Drink 3 – 4 liters of water daily 4. Take vegetables and fruit juice 5. Use mosquito net/insect repellent cream to avoid reinfection 6. You can take capsule Revital - one capsule once daily for 1 month to boost immunity. You can take other over the counter vitamin supplement if Revital is not available 7. Investigation – monitor your platelet count I hope this information will help you. I will be happy if you ask another question Thanks
