Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Red Itchy Scaly Patches On The Calves And Hand?
i have recently started to get round scaly patches of red dots and rash on my cAlves and hand. They itch and burn. I see that some medications can cause this. I have arthritis, though it seems to be in remission - and a Dr. at one time diagnosed me (after removing a lump from my neck next to my collar bone) with Sarcoidosis. I have been told it is psoriasis, however i do not get the white scaly flakes. I get red tiny dots like scabs in with the round area of rash. I am 59 years old. Please advise.
Psoriasis can cause the scaly flake lesions as you explain but might also cause small red dots without the typical candle appearance so it is difficult to say for sure if this is psoriasis or not just by seeing the lesions. Sarcoidosis as well can cause skin rash. Both these conditions are autoimmune and treatment is similar so you will need to talk to your doctor and have the proper treatment.
On the other hand you can use some betamethasone cream on the lesions 1-2 times a day and see if it helps, it should help with both types of lesions (psoriasis or sarcoidosis) and other lesions like eczema or dermatitis so it is worth trying.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
