Hi..
Can understand your concern.
As per your complain a red lump on the back of roof of the mouth can be an
abscess caused due to infection which is leading to inflammation and red area around the lump along with pain..
A red lump can also be due to formation of
mucus cyst known as
Mucocele caused due to injury to minor salivary glands present in that area and can cause accumulation of mucucs into the soft tissues causing formation of a lump.
When it gets infected or traumatized there can be inflammation and pain..
I would suggest you to
consult a dentist or an ENT surgeon and get evaluated..
In case of infection leading to abscess formation taking a course of antibiotics like
amoxicillin twice daily for 5 days and anti inflammatory painkiller like
Ibuprofen twice daily can help..
Do warm saline rinses can help..
In case of Mucocele if it got infected antibiotic and painkiller course will help..
Concentrated salt water rinses helps..
In case mucocele does not resolve in after a month or so also it has to be removed surgically..
Infection will be resolved by antibiotics and painkillers will help in alleviating pain..
For both conditions avoid spicy and hard food..
Take a soft and relatively cool diet..
Maintain a good
oral hygiene..
Drink plenty of water to maintain hydration..
Hope this information helps..
