What Causes Red Painful Blisters Oozing Pus On The Buttocks?
Hi I have a red, painful rash on my butt. I went to the doctor on Thursday, he thought it was herpes and prescribed a valtrex generic antiviral med. the rash has gotten worse not better. he said other possibilities were yeast infection or shingles. I know you can t see the rash but its red, blisters, ulcers and oozing and very painful. any ideas?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Painful red blisters and ulcers with oozing are most probably due to bacterial infection. Herpes simplex infection is also one of the possibility. A clinical assessment by an experienced physician is required to diagnose the condition. Fungal infection is unlikely to cause red painful blisters and oozing ulcers. Viral infection like herpes simplex can cause these symptoms, however, non-responsiveness to valtrex put this diagnosis in doubt. The material oozing out from the ulcer - pus or blood may be send for microbiological examination to determine the causative agent. It is important to determine the causative agent before any treatment can be started. I suggest you to consult your pphysician for further management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
