What Causes Red Painful Scar On Calf?

Hey, I have a strange scar thing on my calf, it looks like a cigarette burn but I know it s defiantly not, it gets a bit red sometimes and hurts sometimes. Skin won t heal over the top of it, but it s not scabby or bleeding, just strnage.. Should I be worried?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have red painful scar on calf . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like urticaria or contact dermatitis , insect bite or varicose vein . Local infection can also cause such symptoms . I would suggest you to apply cold compresses on it twice a day , keep it clean and dry , wear loose cloths and take anti histamine like benadryl . Protect the scar from direct sunlight . If condition doesn't get well then consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may order test like skin patch test , allergy test and physical examination . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics for local infection , immunosuppressants along with corticosteroid ointments .
