What Causes Red Rashes After Walking?

My legs, mostly from my knees down ,break out in a red rash after I have been out walking for long periods of time. There s not much itching or pain, just the unsightly rash. I was at an amusement park this past weekend and it happened. Last month I was touring Istanbul and had walked about 9 miles that day and my legs broke out worse then, than this past weekend. Is there anything I can do to prevent it, or use to make the rash go away sooner?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In my opinion, it could be Pigmented purpuric dermatosis. You do not need to worry about this condition which is only of cosmetic concern. You can apply Emollient lotion on your legs.
But in case, if your rash ulcerate or stays for a longer period of time, do consult your Dermatologist immediately.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

I understand your concern.

1. Before running into final conclusions, I'd ask to send a photo of the skin rash you are experiencing now. I need to evaluate it myself.

2. There are 2 main things we should take into account when it comes to skin rash in legs:
a. inflammation related to allergy or skin infection
b. circulation issues related to varicose veins or edema

So, if you have beein touring in the park, then, I believe the rash could be due to insect bites or any other allergy (from plants).
I advise to apply anti-itching cream you find over the counter. Take anti-histamine you find over the counter.

Apply cold compresses locally. After touring all day long, keep your legs well raised to help blood circulation.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other concern. I'd be glad to assist you further.
